Zoravank Church
Zoravank Church is located in the ravine near Haghpat Monastery, about 200 meters away. It is one of the hidden and fascinating corners of the village. The church was built in 1279 by Priest Varsegh (Barsegh) of the Armenian Apostolic Church. It is also known as St. George Church. Initially, the name “General Gevorg” (Commander George) belonged to a nearby khachkar (cross-stone) and was later transferred to the church itself.
The preserved parts include the prayer hall built of unworked andesite stone and a partially ruined narthex. The church was once surrounded by an old cemetery, from which two khachkars and several distinctive tombstones have survived. An Armenian inscription telling the story of its construction remains on the lintel stone above the entrance. Inside, there is a large clay jar torn out from the wall. The monument is in a highly endangered condition.

How to visit
Zoravank Church is located at the starting point of the Haghpat – Sanahin hiking trail. The trails to Mount Surb Luys, Haghpat – Tsaghkashat, and Kayanberd also pass through this area. The church is surrounded by private property, so it is advisable to get permission from the landowner before entering. Fifteen to twenty minutes are enough to explore and photograph the monument. Entrance is free. A small stream flows next to the church, with a cold drinking water spring built above it. After visiting the church, visitors can quench their thirst at the spring.
